Biography

Liwu Liu is a professor (doctoral supervisor) at Harbin Institute of Technology in China and the deputy director of the Department of Aerospace Science and Mechanics. His research interests include mechanics of smart soft materials, smart structures, and their applications. He has published over 100 papers in SCI journals including Adv. Funct. Mater. and Mech. Mater. Besides, he has held over 40 granted patents and authored 10 book chapters. As a principal investigator, he has successfully completed over 10 national projects including three funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is currently the General Secretary of the Working Group on Soft Matter Mechanics of the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, the Editorial Board Member of Experimental Mechanics, and the Young Editorial Board Member of Progress in Mechanics. He has also received the China Emerging Science and Technology Figure Excellence Impact Award in 2019, the Outstanding Contribution Expert of the 3D printing medical devices standard setting group, and the 2015 National Natural Science Second Prize (ranked fifth).

Mechanics of Smart Soft Active Materials, such as Dielectric Elastomers, Shape Memory Polyner, Ferroelectric Polymers, Electrocaloric and Pyroelectric  Energy Conversion.
